| Rob, Elizabeth and Michael |
Rob moved to Oregon in 2002, after graduating from Syracuse University College of Law, and met his wife Elizabeth, a lifelong Oregonian, two days later.
Rob was introduced to Oregon politics in 2004 when he worked through FuturePAC to manage the campaign of a Democratic candidate for the Oregon House of Representatives. Since that time, Rob has actively supported Democratic candidates and causes. In 2007 and 2008, Rob ran for Multnomah County Commissioner for District 3, which surrounds HD 46, knocking on nearly 10,000 doors in NE and SE Portland. Although he narrowly missed the runoff, Rob earned endorsements from The Oregonian, The Portland Mercury, The Skanner, Governor Barbara Roberts, and the Oregon Natural Resources Council (Oregon Wild).
Rob is a dedicated community activist, beginning with his tenure on the Board of the Vernon Neighborhood Association in NE Portland and on the Executive Board of the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN). Rob has also served on the City of Portland’s Independent Police Review (CRC) Committee and as an advisory board member to the City of Portland’s Human Rights Commission, and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Local Public Safety Coordinating Council (LPSCC). In 2008, he was nominated by Governor Ted Kulongoski and confirmed by the Oregon State Senate to serve on the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Council.
In 2010, Rob was recommended by now-Treasurer Ted Wheeler, and appointed by State Senator Jackie Dingfelder, to the bipartisan Multnomah County Charter Review Committee, where Rob was elected Vice Chair of the Committee at large and Chair of the Committee’s public safety work group. Rob is an attorney in private practice (www.milesnicklaw.com), practicing criminal defense, litigation, and family law. In December 2010, Rob and Elizabeth welcomed their first baby, Michael Stanley. They love living in Oregon, and Portland in particular, and count Cannon Beach and Laurelhurst Park among their favorite places in the country!
